TIMELINE
THE FORSAKEN HEIR
9:24 - 9:29
In a realm steeped in political intrigue, magic, and a web of complex social hierarchies, the tale begins with the birth of a young illegitimate child within the opulent walls of an Orlais household. Born of ill-fated love, this innocent boy's arrival threatened to unleash a scandal that could shatter the very pillars of the Callier family's prestige. His father, a lowly servant in the grandeur of the Callier estate, had diligently concealed his clandestine affair with a noblewoman, guarding the secret fiercely. However, when the irrefutable evidence of the child’s existence could no longer be hidden, the Callier family faced a heart-wrenching decision to protect their esteemed reputation at any cost. Consequently, the vulnerable infant was abandoned, left to the capricious whims of fate.
Yet, fate had its own plans for this forsaken child. He was discovered by another noble family in a neighboring nation. Their elder son took the boy in, offering kindness, care, and protection. Under his guidance, the child grew into a skilled young man, learning both the arts of combat and the intricacies of courtly life, absorbing the virtues of loyalty and honor. Unbeknownst to him, his true lineage remained a closely guarded secret, known only to a select few.
LEGACY IN FLAMES
9:30 - 9:39
Years later, during the chaos of the Fifth Blight, the noble family that had taken him in suffered a devastating betrayal. Their ancestral estate was reduced to ruins, and many lives were lost in the treachery. Amid the destruction, the young ward narrowly escaped, thanks to the bravery of a servant whose name has since been forgotten. With his surrogate family in ruins and their legacy in ashes, he found himself alone, haunted by the mysteries of his birth and driven by an insatiable thirst for answers.
In time, Deyran—now a man—learned the truth through a cryptic message from a former servant of the Callier family. He uncovered his true parentage: he was a Callier, a name he had never known, linked to both wealth and disgrace. His fury ignited upon discovering that his family had been murdered by a man named Thom Rainier. This revelation shattered him, leaving him with nothing to live for except an all-consuming desire for vengeance, a reason powerful enough to compel him to pick up a blade and hunt down those responsible for his misfortune.
Deyran quickly uncovered the identities of those involved. Consumed by rage and grief, he founded an organization known as The Ashen Ones, comprised of men and women sworn to take vengeance against their wrongdoers. Together, they hunted their enemies across the shadows of Thedas, striking swiftly and mercilessly, exacting horrific punishment on each one. Their vengeance was cold, calculated, and brutal.
As they brought each conspirator to a gruesome end, Deyran reserved the leader for last, ensuring that this final foe would suffer more than all the others combined. The enemy's terror stretched endlessly, with no escape from the weight of Deyran’s vengeance. Still, one flame lingered in the dark corners of Thedas, a smoldering reminder of unfinished business: Thom Rainier.
FOR DUTY AND SOMETHING MORE
9:40 - 9:44
As the Inquisition rose to power and new threats emerged, Deyran matured into a man of considerable influence, becoming more than just an assasin. With his natural cunning and skill for uncovering secrets, he found himself serving a new liege. Despite his lingering rage, Deyran learned the value of patience. His pursuit of vengeance transformed into a more nuanced approach.
Over time, he gathered information about Thom Rainier, the man behind the tragedy that befell his birth family. Yet, the battlefield had shifted, as had the world around him. The veil between the mortal realm and the Fade began to tear, forcing Deyran to confront not only men but also unnatural forces.
Faced with growing chaos, Deyran set aside his personal vendetta for the greater good. His skills were needed in the service of the Inquisition. Though his name was never spoken aloud and his legacy remained hidden, his cause was still just. With the realm on the brink of destruction, Deyran turned his back on revenge, choosing instead to assist the Inquisition from the shadows.
CURRENT DAY
9:45 - 9:49
Thedas now stands on the precipice of chaos. Divine Victoria, the beacon of order within the Chantry, has fallen victim to an assassin. Amid this turmoil, Deyran remains a key figure in the shadows. His once-burning desire for revenge has cooled, replaced by a deeper understanding of the intricate dance between power and survival. When news reaches him that Thom Rainier—now known as Blackwall—has sought redemption within the Inquisition, Deyran's heart becomes conflicted.
Learning that Thom, the man long associated with the murder of his family, had taken on a new identity and joined the Inquisition sparks a complex mix of emotions within Deyran. Blackwall's journey toward redemption through service to a higher cause had not gone unnoticed.
In the end, Deyran chooses to let go of his vendetta. The world has grown more dangerous and complex, and his true family—the ones who cared for him—matters more than the ghosts of the past. As the world trembles beneath the weight of shifting powers, Deyran stands resolute, ever the spymaster, guiding those in his charge through the darkness.
