### Early Life and Loss at Sea
Horus was born in the Free Marches, a region in Thedas known for its fiercely independent city-states. His family, though loving, led a modest life, never expecting the tragedy that would soon strike. When Horus was just a small toddler, a violent storm engulfed the ship he and his family were traveling on. The ship was torn apart by the unforgiving waves, and in the chaos, Horus was separated from his parents. Alone and adrift, he was carried by the currents until he washed ashore on the distant, land of Rivain.
### Raised by Pirates
Fortune smiled on Horus when a band of pirates discovered the tiny survivor. Led by the formidable Captain Victoria, the pirate crew took him in, giving him the name Horus. Captain Victoria, who had a reputation for being ruthless, had a soft spot for the orphaned child. She raised him as one of her own, teaching him the ways of the sea and the pirate’s code.
Life on the pirate ship was filled with adventure and danger. Horus learned to navigate the seas, engage in combat, and survive in the harshest of conditions. Despite the rough environment, he was surrounded by a makeshift family that cared for him deeply. The pirates protected him fiercely, ensuring his safety and nurturing his growth.
### Discovery of Magic
As Horus grew older, he began to exhibit signs of magic. His abilities were raw and untamed at first, manifesting in small, strange ways. One night, during a fierce battle with a rival crew, Horus inadvertently transformed into a seabird to escape danger. This startling discovery marked the beginning of his shapeshifting abilities.
Recognizing the danger that Horus's magic posed, especially the risk of being discovered by the Templars, Captain Victoria and the crew decided to keep his abilities a secret. They hid him from the prying eyes of the outside world, allowing him to develop his powers in safety. An old Rivaini witch, who was a friend to the pirates, helped Horus learn to control his shapeshifting and harness his healing magic.
### Life as a Pirate Mage
Horus's magical abilities became an invaluable asset to his pirate family. His shapeshifting allowed him to take on various forms, aiding in stealth missions. His healing magic, however, was his greatest gift. He could mend wounds and cure ailments, saving countless lives and earning the undying loyalty of his crewmates.
Despite the dangers, Horus thrived in the pirate life. He loved the freedom of the open sea and the camaraderie of his pirate family. However, as he matured, he began to feel a yearning for something more—a desire to understand his origins and the life he had lost.
### Quest for Identity
Throughout his life, Horus harbored a deep-seated curiosity about his origins. Fragments of memories and tales told by his pirate family hinted at his true heritage in the Free Marches. Driven by a desire to uncover his past, Horus embarked on a personal quest to learn about his family and the life he was taken from.
He traveled back to the Free Marches, following leads and piecing together the story of his early life. The journey was filled with challenges, but Horus was determined to uncover the truth.

Abilities
He wears a special amulet, that soothes the mind and imparts a general sense of well-being to its wearer. It helps him make sure he keeps his magic under control so that it doesn't surface if he gets upset or angry. He fights ok with a dagger, when he manages to get the pointy end to go in the direction he wants, but really he'd prefer diplomacy to fighting, when at all possible. He has a great ability to drink copious amounts of rum and flirt with everyone around him. He can shape shift and prefers to be a Raven or Crow when he does, but it's rare and never if someone else is around, because rogues don't shape shift you see, rogues fight with pointy metal swords, they don't do magic, and Horus is NOT a mage.
