I. "We are not only makers of history. We are made by history."

The Vero family has long been a formidable force in the Tevinter military, their legacy spanning generations of excellence on the battlefield. Both men and women of the Vero lineage have ascended the ranks with unparalleled skill and determination, cementing their family name in the annals of Tevinter's storied military history. Their prowess in combat and strategy has made them a respected and feared name throughout the empire.

Nymeria Vero's birth was marked by ominous weather, perhaps a foretelling of her turbulent life to come. On a stormy night, when the moon shone its brightest and the city was unexpectedly ravaged by wind and rain, Nymeria entered the world. Her stormy grey eyes mirrored the chaos outside, and her soft red curls were a stark contrast to the darkness of the night. Iliana Vero, her mother, endured a grueling labor, which left her bedridden for several days after Nymeria's birth.

Nymeria was the second child in the Vero family, born four years after her older brother, Cassian. The Vero household was one of warmth and love, despite the strict military upbringing that defined their lives. Nymeria was doted upon by her parents, Zander and Iliana, and adored by Cassian, who took on a protective role from an early age. Two years after Nymeria’s birth, the family welcomed a third child, her younger brother, Lucius. The addition of Lucius did not alter the family's dynamic significantly; they remained close-knit and supportive.

Gone was her quiet nature as a baby; instead, a highly energetic yet well-mannered girl took her place. Aelynn's curiosity constantly drew her towards the people who entered the tavern. Whenever her parents didn't require her presence, one could always find her gravitating towards the many visiters that entered their household.

II. "Watch her do a miracle."

In the Vero family, the tradition of training in combat began early. Zander and Iliana believed that mastering physical combat was essential, even before the emergence of magical abilities. Nymeria, being smaller and more agile than her brothers, was assigned a series of specialized instructors who focused on her agility and flexibility. She quickly developed an affinity for a particular shadow rogue, whose teachings emphasized stealth, agility, and precision.

Under the rogue’s tutelage, Nymeria honed her skills, becoming adept at moving silently and striking swiftly. Her training sessions were intense and demanding, leaving little time for anything else. Her instructor drilled every move and attack into her, shaping her into a lethal combatant whose strength lay not in brute force but in speed and flexibility. Nymeria could bend her body in ways that seemed impossible, a testament to her rigorous training and natural talent.

As Nymeria grew, changes began to stir within the Vero family, though she was too young to fully understand them. Her parents, Zander and Iliana, grew increasingly anxious as years passed without Nymeria displaying any signs of magical ability. Her brothers Cassian and Lucius had both shown their magical talents by the age of six, and it was unheard of for a Vero to remain magicless into adolescence. Nymeria’s parents hid their growing fear and disappointment, shielding her from the harsh judgment of society.

III. "War, Misery, and Death spared no soul and took no pity on no family."

At the age of twelve, Nymeria still had not exhibited any magical abilities. Her parents, desperate and ashamed, decided to take drastic measures. They sought a way to force her magic to manifest, believing it was the only solution. Their search led them to a dark and ancient power, Dumut, the Dragon of Silence. Dumut offered them a shard that would imbue Nymeria with magic, but the price was steep: a human sacrifice of their own kin.

Iliana, driven by love and desperation, offered herself as the sacrifice. The ritual had to be performed in secrecy, as the revelation of Nymeria’s initial lack of magic would tarnish the Vero name. The ceremony was harrowing, a blend of ancient rites and dark magic. Iliana’s life was given to Dumut, and Nymeria became a vessel for the dragon’s power - if only a small part. The trauma of the ritual left Nymeria with hazy memories of her early childhood. She could scarcely remember anything before the age of twelve.

Zander told her a story to explain the past: both she and her mother had fallen gravely ill, and while Nymeria survived, the illness had taken Iliana’s life. This explanation, reinforced by the voice of Dumut in her head, became her truth. The presence of the dragon she had started calling Deimos, guided her, helping her believe her father’s tale and navigate her new reality.

IV. "She was not fragile like a flower. She was fragile like a bomb."

With her mother gone and her magic awakened, Nymeria's life took a new direction. Her affinity for animals grew, and she spent hours training with them, developing a deep bond and understanding. Zander, recognizing her unique abilities, let her learn on her own. Simultaneously, Deimos pushed her towards blood magic. And not to forget that the first every teacher a shadow rogue also kept training her. Balancing these two disciplines was challenging, but Nymeria persevered, learning to multitask and maintain focus.

When she was old enough, Nymeria joined her brothers in the military. Her prowess on the battlefield quickly earned her recognition. She rose through the ranks with the same ease as her predecessors, though her path was fraught with unique challenges. As a woman, she faced additional scrutiny and had to prove herself repeatedly. Yet, Nymeria was undeterred. Her combat style, a blend of shadow rogue techniques and blood magic, made her a formidable opponent. Her steel weapons, invisible to the naked eye, were coated with blood magic, enhancing their lethality.

V. "She was an angel craving chaos."

Nymeria became known for her efficiency in eliminating high-value targets. Her speed and stealth earned her the moniker "Illa vēnātrīx." She never failed a mission, her success rate unmatched. However, despite her accomplishments, she began to feel restless. The stories her mother had told her of the world beyond Tevinter ignited a desire to explore.

Everything changed when the Veil dropped. Just as Nymeria contemplated leaving Tevinter, a magical shield was raised, trapping her within the empire. She had no choice but to continue her military service. When the shield finally fell, she saw her chance. Inspired by Deimos’s suggestion, Nymeria approached her superiors, requesting a mission that would take her beyond Tevinter's borders. She yearned to see the world her mother had described and to carve out her own path, free from the shadow of her family's expectations.

How is it that a dream of such nature
could hang here in my heart, suspendeded here-
twirling, turning, blinking- like eyes in the sun?
A once shadowy dream- now more real
than my own flesh, more real than
my own beating heart
TIMELINE

I.

She who walks the floors of Hell
finds the key to the gates of her own Heaven,
buried there like a seed.

II.

Watch me.
I will go to my own Sun.
And if I am burned by its fire,
I will fly on scorched wings.

III.

Come back to me
Even as a ghost, even as a shadow,
a raven at my door, a scar upon my body-
for it is in my trembling, schrinking heart,
I hold the things we thought we lost

IV.

Inside myself, I've seen a Hell-
a road so thick with blood,
unspeakable violence, beauty, and tragedy,
so thick you could take it in by the mouth,
like cream or black roe,
and know the wounds hidden in my jaw
