Harper was born the unwanted child of an Orlesian Noble woman and a Dalish man's one night tryst. The noble woman had tried to pass the little girl off as her husband's for the entire pregnancy, but when she was born with blond hair it was apparent that she wasn't a product of the marital bed. But, her mother's husband was a good man, even if her mother was not. He paid a wet nurse to take baby Harper, with a trust set up for the girl to go to the University of Orlais to study a profession that would allow her a leg up in the world. And Harper saw it thought, studying hard under the encouragement of her adopted mother, to climb above the circumstances of her birth.

Even while she studied, Harper kept an active social life, mingling and rubbing elbows with people in higher stations in life than she, eventually falling in love with someone who would break her completely down to the most broken a person could be before she made the effort to start building herself back up. He got her into crime, in a big way, theft, murders, money laundering, even as much as real estate scams -- if it could be considered a crime, he had been a part of it, and she had been his right hand woman, until she wasn't. By the time she decided to put him behind her, she was leveraging her university degree to start seeing patients, to put herself back into the social circles she wanted to be in again.

Especially since those social circles allowed her to fund her lifestyle a little bit easier, especially the social circle that put her in close contact with her new beau, too bad he's a demon, come to find out, she's not that picky when it comes right down to a lover who treats her right.
