The bronto is a subterranean animal commonly found living mostly underground. It is herded by dwarves, though some bronto also exist in the wild within the depths of southern Thedas.

This hulking beast was originally bred by the dwarven Shaperate as a beast of burden and a food source, serving a role similar to that of oxen and cows on the surface. Over time, dwarves developed some bronto variants as mounts, prized for their sure-footedness and stamina rather than speed. While numerous within Orzammar, wild packs of bronto can still be found roaming the Deep Roads, having reverted to their natural state following the collapse of many dwarven kingdoms. Remarkably, bronto require minimal sustenance, consuming organic material from water, fungus, and even rocks, earning them the nickname "rock-licker" among dwarves. Typically, bronto remain in a dormant state until provoked. However, when angered and charging, a bronto becomes a formidable and dangerous adversary.
