When Tevinter heard word that a powerful mage might destroy the Veil; upheave the Fade, they feared for their magics... and so, a barrier spell was crafted — and a new way of life came to be. It was not uncommon before the barrier to call Tevinter a dictatorship, but with the arrival of earth and magic to keep the Tevene people in and all of Thedas out... that only became worse. From 9:44 Dragon until 9:50 Dragon, the Tevinter people have been locked behind a barrier, living under a military regime that favored mages and used non-mages in menial labor and the military.

But the barrier is gone now, and so is the Black Divine...

Things are starting to change.

We love Friz, and she's going to be around in smaller ways that are less taxing on her at this time. 12/12/2022: - A good month! Almost everyone met our activity check! Good job, folx! This month's check is just a check-in. This check-in will go live on Dec 20th through Jan 3. You'll all be tagged when it's up. You just pop in, tell us who you're keeping, dropping, so on. :) Let's get active, babies!

11/10/2022: - Profile Updates, Ahoy! I (Ivy) have been updating the character profile. The profile is now fully editable by the members, and a lot of the extra coding that staff had been doing to account for foci and archetypes is embedded into the profile. There are now new fields for you, and we're working quickly behind the scenes to update the systems that go with archetype and foci.

10/04/2022: - Happy Halloween, or Samhain, Solstice, and any other holiday I'm not aware of! (I know, it's early, but dammit October is definitely Hallows month). This month's announcement has a lot of goodies, from OOC scavenger hunt, to IC changes and some events! Please check that out here.

9/1/2022: - New PQ for the dwarven kingdom of Belgond Knurla! New announcement with monthly challenges and prompts, as well. Please note that the members' voted for this month to be member-led activity-wise; the activity rules do not apply for September however they will be coming back full-force in October.

7/29/2022: - First PQ (personal quest) has gone up, Frozen Flowers, In This Heat? This quest is to test out the system and see where the problems are, so that we can work to fix those issues.

7/11/2022: - The site is now open to the public! We are in extended public soft-open. Most of the lore is completed, guidebook is done, and the forum is operational. Threads and posting can commence.

6/24/22 - Welcome to the world of Veiled Hearts! Please be mindful that the site is in SOFT OPEN and things are still being added. Some of our guidebook pages are currently offline, as they are not in-use or created. You may see these things come online over the course of the next few weeks.

When Creating Your First Account: Please register your OOC account first. This account should match with your Discord Server Username.

After creating your OOC account, you are free to register your characters accounts with proper capitalization. You can attach these accounts to your OOC account through the User Control Panel.

Enjoy your stay! Please keep all questions, bug reports, etc. out of Staff DMs, and into the proper channels on the server. Remember that staff are people too, and we're working very hard to get the site to full open, however we do like to have fun so please avoid asking your staffers questions if they're taking part in voice channels (the exception is if they're actively hosting a Q&A).

Antiva

Antiva is a country ruined by plutocracy, something that the royals despise. It is a coastal kingdom, relying heavily on sea-trade. This country has fruitful vineyards and is known for an aggressive diplomatic approach when dealing with other nations. This is one of the wealthiest nations in Thedas. The landscape varies, from forests and mountains to the ocean, large domed buildings that are truly just displays of wealth.

Ferelden had just been freed from Orlesian hold during the reign of King Maric, and therefore it can be expected that much of Ferelden's architecture can mimic Orlais. However, Ferelden does have its own castles with high steeples and turrets, it's flatlands, farmlands and more. In this nation, teyrns and teyrnas hold power over their own land, and the King does not always have the final say.

Free Marches

The Free Marches take up a lot of eastern Thedas, situated to the south of Antiva, east of Nevarra, and north of Ferelden. There are many cities encompassed in this area, however the main three cities of note are: Wycome, Kirkwall and Starkhaven. These cities are independent-minded, led by the descendents of barbarians who cannot agree on any matter at all. The Free Marches are always divided, and every city has a different outlook on how the city should be ran. These are practically lawless lands... but be careful not to break the laws that do exist.

Orlais

Building are stone and brick, with steep sloping roofs, double-sloped mansard roofs, dormer windows, towers and turrets. Orlais has always taken things far too seriously, and may be considered one of the most dramatic nations in all of Thedas. The people of this Empire walk around in elegant clothing that are often styled after animals, or otherwise crafted to be as extra as is humanly possible. Masks are oft-used to hide ones face, especially if you're involved in 'the game'. Everyone's playing at something.

Once a country to spread through Thedas, Tevinter is only a shadow of its former glory. Ruled by Magisters and held up by a huge population of slaves, it still remains the center of the slave-trade of all Thedas, known for the silent acceptance of bloody forbidden magic.
