Red lions are massive felines native to the Frostback Mountains.

As one of the famed predators of the Frostbacks, red lions are formidable hunters capable of taking down cavern bears. These fearless creatures readily prey on various tool-using species, consuming them as easily as any other catch in the mountains. Red lions typically exceed ten feet in length and weigh over 600 pounds. Their luxurious russet pelts, adorned with grey and black striping, are highly prized by the dwarves of Orzammar.

Red lions are notably cunning, often waiting until a group of people is distracted or scattered before launching an attack. They are adept at targeting individuals who stray from the group or appear vulnerable. With a stunning rush, the red lion aims to swiftly break its prey’s neck and drag the body away at a hideous speed to feed elsewhere.

Perhaps the most remarkable trait of the red lion is its unnatural speed. They move in a near blur, attacking from multiple directions, dodging behind trees only to double back and charge unexpectedly. They retreat only if seriously injured; otherwise, if merely driven off without harm, they will continue to stalk their prey from afar.
