The Twiddletoad is a small, toxic creature known for its feisty nature. Its existence is a topic of debate among alchemists, mages, and biologists, making it a rare sight. Despite this, the Twiddletoad is highly sought after as a caster’s familiar due to its loyalty, adorable appearance, and ability to serve as a distraction. However, caution is advised when handling these creatures, as their spores and mucus are highly toxic.

Twiddletoads vary in size, ranging from a few inches to a foot tall. Their main bodies are furry, similar to otters or beavers, and they thrive both in and out of water. The tops of their heads resemble toadstools and have a soft, leathery texture. A distinctive characteristic of Twiddletoads is the fine, sticky mucus they secrete, which is poisonous to the touch and even affects darkspawn.

These creatures possess a charm aura that compels those who see them to pick them up and pet them. It is advisable to wear gloves when handling Twiddletoads to avoid direct contact with their toxic mucus. Their primary defensive mechanism, aside from their poisonous mucus, is the ability to release a spore cloud. This cloud spreads up to five feet in every direction and contains the same poison as their mucus, causing eye irritation similar to pepper spray.

The effects of Twiddletoad poisoning vary in severity:

All terrain feels difficult to navigate as everything seems soft and slimy.
Hallucinations of shimmering bubbles appear at the edge of vision.
Fingers seem mushroom-like.
Speech is impaired, producing only smacking, bubbling sounds.
Legs feel weak and unsteady, causing frequent falls.
The body feels numb while the mind remains clear, allowing for focused thoughts.
Handle Twiddletoads with extreme care to avoid these toxic effects.
