PLEASE NOTE THAT MAGIC CANNOT HEAL DISABILITIES. IF A STAFFER SEES YOUR CHARACTER HEALING A DISABILITY, WHETHER MENTAL, PHYSICAL OR LEARNING, STAFF WILL REACH OUT AND ASK YOU TO CHANGE YOUR POST. DISABILITIES ARE PART OF LIFE AND STAFF FEEL THAT REPRESENTATION IS IMPORTANT—IF YOUR ONLY REASON FOR WRITING A DISABLED CHARACTER IS TO TURN AROUND AND MAKE THEM "NORMAL", THEN YOU SHOULDN'T PLAY THEM IN THE FIRST PLACE. THIS IS A BANNABLE OFFENSE.
ABOUT THE SCALE
Expert: This foci level allows your character to caste with the most precision. This means your character has mastered this foci, and they know as much as one person could possibly know about it. They're going to be able to hold spells for longer, and yield better results. This is also when characters typically learn to do magic with their hands alone, needing no physical catalyst. In staff-ran official fights, characters who are using a foci that is mastered receive a +2 to all dice rolls during the time they are using that foci.
A healer has a mastery level of expert in healing. She is able to heal and maintain the magic with no staff, wand or catalyst but her hands. She is able to completely stitch back together wounds, organs, and even heal away infection. This person can detect things such as infection, parasites (including pregnancy) and much more.
Advanced: Having a mastery of advanced in a foci is going to allow your character to caste with okay precision, they may not be able to do spells on the go depending on the type of spell they're trying to do, but they're getting there and with a little more practice they may very-well learn mastery. In staff-ran official fights, characters who are using a foci that is advanced will receive +1 to all dice rolls during the time they are using that foci.
A healer has a mastery level of advanced. They are able to detect infections, they cannot detect where the infection is but they can detect the presence of infection. They are able to stitch back wounds, organs, and heal infection but these will require days worth of healing afterwards to be fully healed. This person cannot fully heal with just their magic.
Intermediate: This foci level means your character has a good grasp on theory, but they very likely cannot caste more than one spell at a time, nor can they do these spells on the move. They must really focus, and oftentimes their spells blow up on them. In a staff-ran official fight, characters who are using a foci at intermediate level receive (+0) no extra attribute to their rolls.
A healer has a mastery level of intermediate. They are able to heal wounds, though they must expend a large amount of magic to fully heal wounds. They have to hand-stitch if they wish to avoid using a lot of energy. They must focus, and their spells often fail them. Most healers at this level also know how to tend to wounds without magic.
Competent: This foci level means you are competent, and this means your characters can caste, but they are not going to be the best at putting their magic to use.
A healer with a mastery level of competent can heal scratches and bruises, and some deeper cuts. They rely more on non-magical means of surgery and stitching for more severe issues.
Beginner: This foci level allows your character to caste the most basic of spells.
At the most basic, your character can heal bruises and scratches, but nothing deeper. They are primarily healing with non-magical means.
Novice: This foci level states that your character understands the theory of a magic but cannot actually put them to use. These characters, if official staff-managed fights receive a deduction of -3 from every dice roll when using this foci.
This person can understand the theory of healing, but cannot actually use any kind of healing abilities.
