Announcement #13: The New Year Arrives!
With 2024 rolling in, things on VH are adjusting accordingly! So, before we dive into plot specific fun shit, let's talk about some minor changes to the site and the way the site is run.
User Lore Submissions
After a lot of trial and error, the staff team has decided that when a member submits lore, a staffer will take a second to make sure this member understands that we may not use their lore exactly as written or at all. These lore submissions need to be submitted in a ticket.
User lore submissions are great, and we encourage them! However, user lore submissions are not collaborative submissions. If a member is seeking to collaborate with staff on lore that will 100% definitively be used on the site, they need to state this.
Collaborating With Staff [Lore Submissions]
If a user asks to collaborate with staff for a lore page, the expectation is that the user or staff member who is collaborating will submit a "general maintenance ticket", or any type of general ticket. Within that ticket, lore will be hashed out and chatted about.
Why Have We Changed Lore Submission Guidelines?
Because it's easier for us to discuss lore where all staffers can see it. That way, if a staff member is a dick, we get called out for it. And vice versa for members.
Guidelines For Submissions:
An admin friend of mine, who runs another site, explained to me why she would never use "triggers" over "limits" when asking players what they will or will not write (or read, participate in, etc). It made a lot of sense.
Her explanation was, a "trigger" implies that interacting, participating or being exposed to something will affect you mentally. Which gives strangers on the internet ammunition to harm you if they were of the mind to be malicious.
To avoid this, we've changed the "trigger" profile to read as "limits". Limits implies that these are your limits. They're not limits for any explained reason but simply because you don't want to interact, participate or engage with those topics.
Definition of trigger: "In mental health terms, a trigger refers to something that affects your emotional state, often significantly, by causing extreme overwhelm or distress. A trigger affects your ability to remain present in the moment. It may bring up specific thought patterns or influence your behavior."

- If interested in submitting a piece of lore: submit it in a ticket.
- If interested in collaborating with staff: submit it in a ticket.
- Do not discuss your lore submission outside of that ticket.
- Do not speak to different staffers about the matter outside of that ticket.
