Gabe darted to the side, the fireball smashing into the wall behind him with a deafening crack. He spun his staff in his hand, its weathered wood catching the faint glow of the twisted light in the hall. A crooked grin pulled at his lips as he took stock of the creature, his eyes narrowing on the chains binding its hulking form.
The weight of the estate pressed down around them, thick with the kind of malice you could almost taste. Gabe stepped carefully, the staff ready in his hands, each movement calculated to keep the demon focused on him.
A low, bitter chuckle escaped him as the demon turned, chains rattling with every movement. Gabe raised his staff, tracing a rough arc through the air. A pulse of energy erupted from the tip, striking the ground near the creature’s feet. The light flickered briefly, sparking against the stone, more a distraction than an attack.
