It hadn't taken long for Vela to come across the Din'an Sahlin during her early explorations of the forest. After its discovery she had encouraged the growing group of elves that were beginning to call Arlathan home to stay away - it was clearly a much more dangerous place to be than other places within the tangled maze of trees and branches, and Vela did not want to be responsible for any early deaths.
However, as time had gone on and Arlathan's city had grown, there had never been any mention of anyone going missing within the darkness. Either because everyone had heeded her warning (unlikely, Vela knew what curiosity encouraged) or perhaps because it wasn't as dangerous as its appearance suggested. There was undoubtedly a power emanating from its depths, a magic that Vela could feel but not put a finger on. It made the Well whisper, and despite her warnings to others, she found herself back at the fringes of where the Din'an Sahlin started.
It was subtle at first. The tree trunks thickening and the branches overlapping. Slowly the light began to struggle until it was only the sharpness of her elven eyes that helped her to distinguish the path in the growing gloom. She didn't go much further than that.
Within the sem-darkness movement caught her eye, and the whisper of a voice had her ears straining. It wasn't one of the voices in her head (though, admittedly, sometimes it was hard to distinguish) so she approached, squinting at the shape of someone standing among the trees. Tall and svelte, Vela could just make out that the woman was another elf.Aneth ara,she called out to get the elf's attention. The closer she got, the more she could feel something tugging within her. It was a strange feeling, like deja vu, but she pushed it aside. Are you lost?
