The Most Important Rule is Kindness

Nairn chuckled, and he doesn't point out the obvious, that he's oft shadowed her and she's been unaware. But that seemed to be her point; she'd be at his side, she could hold his hand, and be a bit more secure than a stalker in the shadows of the crowd.

As she defended her dancing, he laughed, and shook his head again. And then she was very quickly begging him for a dance. And he grinned in success, carefully untangling from her so that he could stand. Offer his hand, to pull her to her feet.

Alright, the steps for you... He'd demonstrate the steps for her part of a waltz, and wait until she successfully repeated them back to him. Then he showed her what he was doing, once, before he went through the step breakdown together, how their steps worked together. A quick and dirty lesson.

You step along to what I hum, though he doesn't begin to hum yet, starting instead with numbers out loud. 1... 2,3... 1... 2,3. A simple box step, really only the most basic of the steps but he's not willing to teach her more than that while she's reeling from nerves and drink.

And then he started to hum, nothing in particular. Still, just the 1... 2,3... rinse and repeat.
