Don't Think Twice

Her head tilted to the side ever-so-slightly. Seeing her begin rebuilding personally may help others feel more at ease. But not him? Perhaps she was reading too much into what was said. She did not think so, however. Rather than confront him directly about his word choice, Mythal remained quiet, keeping her hands clasped behind her back the way that they were. She did not miss the way his hands gripped at the fabric along his sides, but she did not draw attention to it by staring outright at the gesture. It was curious though, that he was so agitated.

As she listened, she could not help but remember Elgar'nan's words. None of them were as they were then. To try was to embrace stagnation; to expect so was folly. She’d cared for him, once, a long, long time ago. Just as she had cared for Revas, though in a different capacity. A brow arched, but she did not interrupt, waiting until he had finished, spoken that which he felt necessary.

Revas. You chose to be called ‘freedom’. I do not expect blind obedience, nor do I hold you to the bonds you swore long ago. We are not the same as we were then. The world is not the same. If you say you cannot be my General, than you cannot. If you say you cannot aid me in my battle against Elgar’nan, then you cannot. If you do not agree with my choices, what I believe is right, then you do not. Here, her focus sharpened, honing in completely on him. I am Mythal, the Great Protector. The All-Mother. I have not forgotten what those mean. Do not mistake me for another.

As cutting as her gaze was, she did not believe than the male she had offered sheltered to all those years ago had meant any offense, so she deliberately softened her expression once again. Not that it mattered when he did not seem able to meet her eyes. Again, curious.

Your quandary is not unique, nor it is uncommon. Would you believe that I, too, am not certain where I belong in this new world? But that is part of the beauty of it, I think. We are given the chance to find out, to forge ahead, to surround ourselves with friends, loved ones, old and new. And here, while some of the warmth faded from her eyes, the softness did not. She was not blind. As for the one you love, know that I will not currently interfere but I will be watching.
