Questing onsite is a big part of the leveling system and fighting and skirmish systems, as well as a way to further expand our world and explore our plotlines. Quests typically have a quest description, their own title, their own prefix, and for the most part quests can be run by anyone! There is a specific type of quest that is only for admins to run, as it furthers the world plots, but everything else is open for members to propose, write and manage at their own will.
Quests are always going to be group events and for something to truly count as a quest, admin are expecting to see 3+ characters in said quest. Please avoid putting multiple characters written by one RPer in a quest at the same time, however. Quests should work hand-in-hand with the discord dice system, whether that's using the actual dice bot or using the bot that allows you to write out options and it picks for you. To keep things fair, aim for randomization where possible.
When you have brainstormed and collaborated with staff members for a quest, please use the Quest Template (linked) to post your quest. Additionally, you may advertise your open quest on the discord server's Quest forum!
These questlines are large quests that will affect the site plot, or potentially the kingdom plots. The only time this type of quest would not be staff run is if a member of the ruling party of a kingdom has reached out, proposed their idea to staff, and gotten approval to run the quest. Staff may be watching this questline if they're not running it to ensure that everything is done fairly and by questing rules. Quests in this category can have catastrophic and fatal results for characters, and whoever is running this quest will remind everyone in the very first post, where they are describing the questline, that their characters can possibly die. For some quests this 'death penalty' is not applicable, and it's the creator of the quests discretion if there's any threat for death. These quests often make use of dice or the choice wheel to determine outcomes.
To get started on a Plot Quest, please reach out to staff with a plot hook you are considering either in their direct messages or as a topic in the Lore Ideas forum on the discord server!
These types of quests are small, non-lethal questlines that are usually running errands, building something for a kingdom official, or other "do and receive" type side-quests. Anyone can run these, and these do not need to be run by staff. These questlines give no reward, however they do meet leveling requirements and may give characters reason to thread after the quest. These types of quests are usually personal to the character that's hosting them, and we require that character to be actively helping everyone else with the quest, otherwise, it is not valid.
Personal quests have a lot of freedom in which kind of adventure your character will go on, as you will be responsible for having a general idea for the who, what, where, and whys of the goal. Your character will act as a quest-giver and tag-along for the group. In general. You may play NPCs related to the quest from your OOC account or within your own character's posts. Other players can control the direction of the story, but this role will default to the player who created the quest.
These questlines are specific to acquiring Vessel Shards. Members can start these questlines without staff approval, however to find the end result they must reach out to staff who will do a public roll in the discord server to determine if they were successful in finding shards. Members can also request staff run these questlines, however it is not required. Each OOC member can run one (1) SQ every two (2) IRL months. Characters who are in their "cooldown" period cannot join other SQs to search for shards. Shards cannot be traded between your own characters.
Seeking quests involve more guidance from staff. For a seeking quest, reach out in direct messages to a staff member with an idea for a plot hook that would interest your character. A staff member will help flesh out the details of such a quest, giving you lore related to the specific shard you are searching for, and where your first clue might lead you to. They also might offer NPCs to become involved in your quest, which they will play.
Learning Quests are tied directly to leveling and growing your skills and foci. These can be initiated by any member, and require at least 2 members total with 3 posts a piece to count. In this type of quest the characters are teaching one another something, or learning something from someone. This does not mean that every thread a character has and learns something counts as a quest—but rather you're hoping to receive a dice roll from staff (after the thread has concluded) that may allow you to learn that skill well enough to put it on your skills list or learn a foci well enough to put it on your foci list.
